| Does anyone know of a good noninvasive bamboo that makes a good tall screen when mature? i wanted to use black bamboo but since it would be near a property line it would be too much hassle. or are there any clumping cultivars of black bamboo? any ideas are great! |

| Bambusa lako 'TIMOR BLACK' and Gigantochloa atroviolacea 'TROPICAL BLACK' are two that are possibilities, but here in zone 8b, they are borderline cold hardy. There are several Bambusas that will do very well for you but they are not black, but there is B. chungii, which is blue, and there are some with yellow culms that have green stripes. Kt |

Two pieces of advice: 1) If you are growing a hedge from clumping bamboo, and it's very long, it could be quite expensive to purchase enough individual pots to have a semi-filled in look. 2) Consider planting more than one species of bamboo. Bamboo plants flower infrequently (the cycles are many years apart), but, when they do, that species will generally flower worldwide over a couple year period, and the plants typically die out due to the flowering. This is obviously bad news if you have grown a nice single-species hedge and the whole thing croaks.... |

| Hi,The best bamboo for a non-invasive hedge in my opinion is Bambusa Textilis var gracilis. It will not take up more gound than a metre(3ft) and will hide a 2 story house in about 3 yrs.I planted one 3 years ago and it is beautiful.Cheers Fran |
