Transplanting Chusquea Culeou

I have one that isn't doing well in it's current location, so I need to move it, but I don't know how far down I need to go to get most of the roots. I think this is it's 3rd year. Also, can I divide it? It has 6 or 8 culms with a fairly large gap between 2 groups of them. It would make moving it much easier. Thanks!
