I would recommend something that 'gives' such as a heavy plastic. I use 25 gallon plastic containers that work nicely.

The terracotta and cement will crack if you let the plant get too rootbound. If you do use a terracotta or cement pot, use one that is vase shaped so the roots/rhizomes will have a tendency to push upward instead of outward.

Even a plastic pot needs to be somewhat wider at the top then at the bottom, to help keep the pot from cracking/splitting.

Some people use metal containers, such as 55-gallon barrels, cut in half. They do alright, but will eventually rust through.

Hi Kt...long time huh? I agree... the "V" shape planters make all the difference. Most of my Bamboo is planterized (is that a word?) lol and are on my deck. Although I have had Moso in the same 15 gallon terra cotta for 3 years now with no sign of splitting or escapees. Started them as seed and now its 15-18 3rd year culms shooting now...looks amazing! its growing 2-3 inches a day. Sorry...didnt mean to hijack your posting...

Howdy, CJ! How(and where) have you been??

Bamboo here is starting to show signs of growth.

I like growing Moso in a pot, although I never had it in a large pot, but it does seem to grow a bit slower and doesn't seem to get rootbound quite as fast as some of the others.

How are the rest of your bamboos doing?

How do Sir... was down for a while...had my second back surgery back in may. Went very well :-) , no pain, no shakes... numbness is at a minmum now. All are growing well... check my list for what I have on hand now... added a few to the menu :-) Didnt we have a trade worked out way back when? lol... I forget. Booking sent me a nice chunk of Lako and asper but neither made it. Sedn me an email clutedad@nc.rr.com and I'll send ya some new moso planter and yard pics. They are looking amazing in the planter.
Insane work schedule kept me off the boards too... How you been?
