I've grown bamboo from seeds several times. The setup you have should work fine. My success rate has been highly variable and I think it has to do with how fresh the seed is (bamboo seed viability declines quickly within several months). Also, some bamboo seed germinates better if it's cold stratified first (put in the refrigerator for a couple of weeks).

Give your seed plenty of time. Depending on species, I've had germination take anywhere from 2 weeks to a couple of months.

Thanks for the vote on confidence. I'm going to check on it daily until I see something and IÂm in no rush. Summer is a few months away and IÂm hoping that IÂll have a few seedlings to put on my patio. It has a patio cover so they'll get bright shaded light all day. I think they would do really well there by the time summer rolls in. Could you suggest a lenght of time when I should give up if I don't see any signs of life?
