Chopped off tall indoor bamboo tree needs help

My majestic old (15 years?) 6 foot tall bamboo is not thriving. I bought it in Japantown SF -- its top was chopped off and it had a beautiful canopy of green leaves coming from its upper two nodes. It might be a bambusa vulgaris? 3 inch diameter brown/gold culm with random green narrow vertical stripes (trying to learn these new words).

Recent years the leaves aren't quite as green. They brown at the tips, fall off easily, bleach in the sunny window more quickly. Poor bamboo, its just feeling its age in its giant pot. Even after repotting 6 years ago, it isn't quite happy.

Any suggestions? Sorry no pix yet.

15 years old?! Has your bamboo ever put up any shoots?

How large is the pot? It probably needs to be repotted since bamboos in pots, especially large bamboos, need to be repotted every 2 to 4 years.

Culms generally live up to about 9 years, so yours is well past that age.
