F. rufa is quite hardy, but it would probably have done much better if it had had time to get established in the ground during the spring and summer months. The fact that you are already getting shoots is a very good sign. I'm sure it will do great from here on out.

I know... I was worried that it might not survive being thrown outside just in time for an Ohio winter! But, dry indoor air seems to be like kryptonite to this plant (even in summer), so I figured this was its best shot. The fact that this winter was a total dud probably helped a great deal too.

I just ordered two more to go with it -- a F. Nitida and a Murielae. They should have a little easier time being planted outside in spring instead of fall...

Plant those new ones immediately, keep them well-watered during summer, and they will be in fine shape for winter.
