Yellow Grove Bamboo

Good Morning,

Last year for mothers day my husband bought me a bamboo plant. We live in MI Detroit metro area. I am pretty sure that is zone 5-6 and that the plant which I believe to be a Yellow Grobe bamboo is hardy in our area. All winter long the plant was green and almost seemed to be growing. As soon as spring hit, the leaves turned yellow and look dead. At the very bottom of this pretty large plant I have green leaves and new growth, but the bulk of the plant looks dead. Should I cut all the dead leaves and stalks off? Is it dead? What should I do?

Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Angela
