stunner- Hardy to Zone 6 means that the root system probably won't die as long as the temperatures don't get unusually low for too long. F. robusta is hardy to about -4F, but will suffer leaf and culm damage at temperatures above that. For example, below is a link to a photo of a Ph. nuda, which is supposed to be hardy to -20F, and what it looked like when it got to -12F. A few people grow bamboo in places as cold as Zone 4, but are used to providing heavy protection and expect aboveground dieback each winter. Your mileage may vary...you'll only know at the end of the winter. If your bamboo survive the winter, they may come back a little stronger each year, but progress could be slow. By the way, I have seen many plants for sale at big box stores that are not appropriate for my locale, so I wouldn't put much reliance on the fact that it was sold to you at Lowe's. It will be interesting to hear what your experience has been next spring. (FYI: It's not necessary to post the same, identical message 4 times in this forum to get an answer) |
