moving homes, want to bring bamboo with me

I will be moving in early May to a location not far from my present home. I want to bring my Fargesia Green Screen Robusta with me. The plants are 2 years old, and about 3 feet tall. What is the best way to go about this? Should I dig them now and pot or burlap, or wait till I move and transplant within hours? Thanks in advance.

Either way would work, but I'd favor waiting and having a hole dug and ready at the new place. Get as big a root ball as you can, soak the root ball right after you dig it with a garden hose, and transport the bamboo inside your vehicle so the leaves don't get wind-burned. Like any planting, make sure the hole has been watered. If the new location is one where it is protected from full sun (at least for several days) that would be a plus. Good luck.

kudzu -- what do you mean "make sure the hole has been watered"? Do you mean before putting the plant in? Yes, water well after planting, but before?

Yes, just make sure you've watered the hole and it's drained so the ground is damp but not swampy...as one normally does with anything you're planting. Bamboo like water (though not standing water) so keep it well-watered in the days thereafter.
