Moso Versus Golden Bamboo...

I planted a moso about three years ago, and this year it's really starting to put out shoots. My golden bamboo (Phyllostachys aurea) has crept into the same area and is also putting out shoots. Is this a potential problem in years to come? Will the golden bamboo overtake (and destroy) the moso or can the moso take care of itself?

They'll both continue to grow. One may be more profuse than the other over time, but neither will "destroy" the other. You'll just have a mixed planting area of two bamboo species.

When runners mix like this it can become psychologically bothersome to the gardener, the planting appearing cluttered or muddled.

I would not want the bushier, decidedly commonplace golden bamboo messing up my (hopefully) developing stand of far more regal moso.

(Duck soup with caviar? No thanks).

Or competing for moisture and nutrients.
