Bamboo Flowering

I have a lovely stand of bamboo in my Japanese garden that has been there for many years. Starting last year, it began to flower. I've heard that when bamboo flowers it dies (killing all the pandas that feed on it). Is my stand of bamboo toast? Should I rip it up and replant? It would be a big job, but it looks really brown and not nice now.
