Growing wild bamboo...

I think I heard a few years ago that you can cut a bamboo cane/stalk and bury it in the ground a couple inches lengthwise and little shoots will sprout from the former leaf branches. Is this correct?

It will work with sugar cane, but most bamboos are harder to propagate.

It depends greatly on what kind/type of bamboo you are using, and you need to leave the limbs at each node on the culm, and sticking up out of the ground, or at least leave the top tip of the culm sticking out of the ground.
