Fast-growing bamboo for pot?

Hello,

Pardon the newbie question ... I would like to have a nice clump of bamboo on my balcony (bring in for winter) that will grow quickly. It will get a lot of sun. The big potted plants here are hundreds of dollars and I thought to grow some of my own, if something will not take so long. Thank you!

The tough part is going to be bringing it inside for the winter. Many (most?) bamboos do not do well indoors. I don't want to discourage you from trying though, so how large a pot can you have on your balcony? How tall do you want the bamboo to get?

Thank you Alan. Inside my ceiling is 20' but outside I think it would be better not to get more than 8' or so.

I can have a 12-16" diameter pot or plant in a narrower rectangle for a sort of screen. If something is quite fast-growing, I guess I could grow every year and not bring inside for the winter.
