Yes, if installed properly... 18-24 inches are the usual depth the rhizomes travel in. Placed in at a slant forces them upward and exposing them to easy spotting and clip there gone.

Ditto on what CJ said. I installed six rhizome barriers and they have failed. I was poorly informed on how to install them and they have split open and bamboo has escaped all over my yard.

I would recommend leaving about three inches of the barrier above the ground after installation, and be sure it is at a great enough SLANT.

I'm thinking of planting running bamboo and have read that the Rhizome Barriers should be about 2-3 layers thick, fixed with self tapping screws and they should be placed to a depth of 900mm. did any one put in the barrier this way and have they failed ?

One layer thick is more than enough. The issue usually happens then they don't overlap enough barrier or they jump the top. I have runners in five section of my yard (all different types), and have never had a problem other than these two issues. 18-20 inches deep is fine.
