I'll be planting the Pleiob' in bright, slightly dappled shade.
The Sas' will be planted in a spot that is very, very bright shade and will receive a few hours of direct sun (to help brighten the variegation).
Both will be planted in the ground in one of those heavy-duty plastic beer keg holders you can get at HD for about $6. I simply cut off the top rim and cut out the bottom and then dig the whole thing in.
I've tried both; they are winter hardy in my Zone (8), but might be marginal in yours. I grow a lot of varieties of bamboo and have found that the Pl. viridistriatus is among the most aggressive runners I've grown. I don't usually use bamboo barrier, but I'd consider it for this one. However, if you don't use barrier, it is good to know that the rhizome system doesn't go very deep and is of such small dimension that it is relatively easy to remove with a pickaxe.
