Note: Simply rule of thumb - the bigger the leaves, the less light the bamboo need. This is extremely helpful to know when growing bamboo indoors.

Clumpers:
Giant leaf bamboo - Indocallamus tessalatus
Broadleaf Bamboo - Indocallamus latifolius
Hedge bamboo - Bambusa multiplex (small leaves, but does great indoors)
Mexican Weeping Bamboo - Otatea acuminata ssp aztecorum - a little on the expensive side.

Runners:
Arrow Bamboo - Psuedosasa japonica - by far the best bamboo to grow indoors.
Green Onion - Pseudosasa japonica
Palmata Bamboo - Sasa palmata
Black Bamboo - Phyllostachys nigra

btw - the indocalamus species are runners, not clumpers

Thamnocalamus tessellatus (Berg Bamboo) is what I was originally thinking of.

I was also researching about bamboo for indoors and have heard mixed feelings on it. One nursery said they will die if the air isn't circulating. I read the pot has to be sitting on a tray with rocks & water at all times for the moisture. I want to give it a try and if it starts to look bad I will move it back outside.

sitting on a tray with rocks & water at all times....is for lucky bamboo, which is NOT a bamboo at all.

I didn't mean just in rocks on water, it is in a pot of dirt and under the pot, of dirt, is a tray with pebbles with some water in it for moisture.

I see. Yes that would definitely help, but if you plant the 'right' bamboo, it should do well indoors without the water and pebbles.

a humidity tray... that's what i thought you meant.

i have seen plenty of bamboo do very well without a humidity tray, i just need to find a variety i like. i'm liking quite a few of the suggestions above!
