That's a beautiful pond, and bamboo would be a nice addition. However, I recommend you either get a clumping bamboo or put the bamboo in large pots. I've seen rhizomes from non-clumping bamboo go under 60 mil pond liners and puncture them like tissue paper.

My choice of clumpers would include: Bambusa multiplex (e.g., Alphonse Karr); Bambusa vulgaris vittata; the Fargesias (e.g., F. utilis); or the Chusqueas.

I'd have to disagree with kudzu9 about the chusqueas. Most of them don't like very hot weather.

Another thing to consider is that bamboo sheds a lot of leaves, and if it's near your pond you'll have leaves floating on it.

Wow, your pond rocks. I love it. I have a stream too, but I have lots of trees so it is difficult to keep clear. Do you have any problems with yours?

daveh, Thanks for the info. I intend to use the bamboo as a fence cover which is far enough from the pond to keep it from causing a major shed problem. Is there another bamboo that you would recommend for my area?

tonya, Thanks for the kind words. I do have to keep the algae clear of the stream because it tends to clog and send the water over the sides. I also have to be careful of the wick effect of plants that want to reach into it. I guess that is just part of gardening.
