Bamboo Discoloration

Greetings,

I am noticing some discoloration on the clums and some leaves of my bamboo. The winter was hard on the newly planted (in PA), and previously potted (in MI), bamboo. They turned from lush green to almost totally yellow this winter, but after great advise from people on this forum, it appears that the green is beginning to return.

However, I'm not writing about the yellowing of the bamboo this time. Instead, I've noticed a black discoloration on many of the clums and not sure what is going on. Has anyone seen this before? Any advise on reversing this discoloration?

The bamboo is 'Phyllostachys rubromarginata'. They are currently about 6 feet tall.

One last note. I was thinking that it may be a drainage issue, so I dug a hole near the planted bamboo, filled it with water, and waited to see how long it would drain. The hole is about 12 inches deep and 24 hours later there is still about 4 inches of water in it. It MIGHT be due to the ground being saturated due to the recent rain and me watering the bamboo heavily over the last week.

Here are some pics of the discoloration:
