Fastest privacy bamboo for Oregon - pic link

A two story house was just built on an unbuildable lot (ha!) behind us and we need privacy above our six foot tall, North/South running, fence asap. Thinking bamboo, either Henon or golden divisions are available quite inexpensively via an Oregon seller on Craigslist. Garden gets full sun until about 6PM. We are newbies and concerned about the boo invading the veggie garden 8 feet from the fence.

Questions are: 1. What bamboos would provide quickest screen 6 ft off the ground? 2. How can we keep it out of the garden? We have access to some old cast iron bath tubs. Would they serve as suitable containers?

3. If not bamboo does anyone have any other suggestions regarding other screening for this situation?

The safest and easiest way would be to buy clumping bamboo so you don't have to worry about stopping it from running. There are several varieties that will get over 6' tall pretty quickly, I often see several varieties close to that range in the Portland area.

You could use the bathtubs with running bamboo, but they'd probably get really swampy in the winter, which would be tough on them. Or you can buy bamboo membrane, which is what I've done, but that takes a lot of work (trenching 3' down, for starters), and still requires some upkeep over time.
