Bamboo Identification and Questions

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum. We moved into a house in 2007 with already established bamboo - that was actually one of the selling points for us. The original owner said it was planted in 2001. It is probably an area 20' x 20'. We've cut back some random stalks to make the bunch more uniformly round. I'm wondering what kind this is. There are some that are very thin and others that look about 2.5 inches in diameter. Some curve at the bottom.

Is there anyway to see which one is the mother plant? When the shoots come up (around now), it is growing in my neighbors yard. Would pruning work to keep this under control? If so, what time of year would you suggest. There are some pictures below, including a new shoot.
