Suggestions for childrens' garden?

I would like to plant some bamboo in a large livestock trough/tank (above ground) in my childrens' garden. I am looking for something that will get 12+ feet tall fairly quickly. I am in zone 7 and the plant will get morning sun, and afternoon shade. Because it's a children's garden, something with interesting colors, edible shoots, and fishing pole/stake possibilities would be a nice bonus. I will probably have to mail order these, so a source suggestion would be helpful.

I've searched online, but I am having trouble finding information about the height/container issue. Many sites will list a variety's height in the ground, but not in a container. I would love answers from people who have 1st hand experience with growing tall varieties in a pot. How big is the container? How tall did your favorite variety get and how fast? What size plant did you start with?

Thank you for your help!
