My question is can I do something to keep so many shoots from aborting? Am I not watering enough? Not fertilizing enough? I know that they do this naturally. I'm just wondering if it's something I can improve on. My grove is well established and I have shoots bigger each year. up to 1 1/4 in diameter and 25 ft tall so far. This species in question is phyllostachys aereosulcata(yellow groove). The grove is 10 Years old and I started with 4 to 5 ft tall about as big around as a pencil. None of the other phyllostachys I have do this(abort). I am currently losing about 1/4 of the shoots.
