You'll have to cut plenty of holes in the bottom.

When a potted bamboo becomes rootbound, the rhizomes will grow deeper than in a normal open grove. They still may sneak out of a hole in the bottom.

As long as the tubs are three feet deep, then I think it's a great idea versus a standard rhizome barrier.

In your zone, you may look into rhizome pruning a couple times each year as an alternative.

I routinely bury some of my spreading and/or invasive plants in pots in the ground (bamboos, Acanthus mollis, etc.), and it works great. They all have drainage holes.

I've never used a stock tank as a container (great idea!), but I have used them as 'dipping pools' in the summer; a little floating chlorinator, a plastic lawn chair in the water, a table outside the tank to put the beer on; and, voila, a cool place to take a dip after work! Afterall, I am redneck_grower; what would you expect?

Interesting! I guess if my better half sees that, I'll be putting one of those up out in the country where we don't have electricity.

She likes her hot tub, and now I'll have no reason to keep from getting one. Putting it on my list of things to do.

thanks for the thought on building a new hot tub guys,, but back to the stock tank.. I have never used one, but have used large tupperware tubs with the bottom cut out with a jig saw. Just cut in 3 or 4 inches from the side and it has a nice lip to help keep in the runners.. NOw, i have to go take a dip in my koi pond, I mean swimming pool...lol
