Sources/Advice on Bamboo For In-Laws

My in-laws would like to plant some bamboo in a shady spot in their backyard, as a privacy fence between their neighbors behind them. The area is about 10 ft wide. I'm pretty sure it's a lot of clay, as it used to be under an above-ground pool.

They're in 19135 zip in Northeast Philadelphia...I would appreciate any advice on where they could purchase bamboo for this area, which variety would be best...etc...

Thanks!

Todd

There are a number of bamboo that would work for that purpose. But do they care whether it's running or clumping bamboo? Running bamboo will fill out a hedge more quickly, but will need either an in-ground carrier or maintenance after several years to keep it from spreading into unwanted places. Clumping bamboo will not run, but each clump will slowly expand in diameter over time.
