Black stem variant

I have a stand of black stem bamboo. This spring one cane grew to only 3 feet withe foreshortened side branches. This I have this shaggy looking cane. Is this a disease? A natural variant? A mutant? An alien life form? I want to post a photo but I cannot figure out how in hell you do it

You didn't use any herbicides around the area recently, such as Round-up, did you?

Sometimes mine will grow similar looking small-leaved bush-like culms. I've seen it in other bamboos but not my black bamboo though.

By the way...you can't post pictures here, from hell. Too hot for computers...
