I don't know if I would call that bamboo, I don't believe its in the Bambusoideae family. As such you would probably have more luck in the Ornamental Grasses Forum.

Where in NY do you live? I also live in NY (west of Syracuse), and I also went to GA a few weeks ago to visit my sister!

Anyways, I don't think there is any avoiding it dieing to the ground every winter, the question is, will it re leaf in the summer?

Thank you for your reply. I looked up muhly grass, which is hardy to zone 6, but it doesn't look like what I have. So, I typed in Muhly bamboo and I did get a few search results that looks more like it. Give it a try, see what you think. Anyway, it's still in the pot waiting for me to decide what to do with it.
I live in a very small town near where NY, NJ and PA meet... Orange County. My family is origionally from this area but one by one they've all moved. It's so much cheaper down south, but to me it just isn't home. They are just below Augusta. Where in NY are you?

Hi Nonyaz, I live in Auburn and just planted 2 types of bamboo last week. They look like they're doing ok so far. I got them from Spring Hill. This is an experiment so I hope they do ok...I wondered what effect our winter would have on them.
