I mulch with a couple of inches of compost in the spring then straw in the winter. Thet keeps out most weeds and any that show up are easy to pull. Preen or CGM will also prevent weeds from sprouting in short bambos that you cannot mulch.

I use preen, it does absolutely nothing. I will try mulching more heavily. Thank you!

Preen is primarily a pre-emergent that kills weed seeds and not existing weeds that may have already sprouted or are currently growing.

Try hand brushing (or carefully spraying) a little Roundup on the visible weeds and watch them shrivel away to nothing! Roundup really won't hurt your boo unless used in full, undiluted strength, so if you get some over spray on it don't fret.

I was wondering if I could do that. I pulled all of them and Preened like crazy. I was gone on vacation for one week, when I came home there was weeds so thick and high-it was as if I was gone for a year!! They're getting sprayed down next time!
