Follow up: The boo man says this is a result of a cold snap. He says his is doing the same thing. I'll check the new culms when they emerge and let y'all know if they are healthy and if that solves the mystery.

Thank you. I don't know how old it is, we've had it in the ground since December and it was in 20gal pots before that. We're in 9-10.

Hi iggypoppy, thanks for the info. How come it gets cold snap in zone 9-10? Do you have cold winter? We don't even get below 40F usually, but wonder now if I should protect mine this coming winter.

I have no idea... We didn't have one, so that's why I'm not inclined to believe him. But there's not much I can do, pretty much everyone is saying it's common, they've seen it before. All I can do is wait to see what the new culms look like, then pay attention to weather,etc to see what may be affecting them!

I'm in zone 9/10 (miami beach) and funny enough, iggy pop was a neighbor! (super nice guy who used to ride around in his red Caddy..he moved a while back from where he lived) We had a very cold winter here last year with many days in the 30's so it may be true what he says.
