Castillon rhizome growth

Hi, I have a newly planted (early spring) P. Bambusoides "Castillon" growing nicely in a raised planter. My question, there is a nice new rhizome growing, but it is growing out of the ground, at about a 30 degree angle with the ground. It's currently about a foot long. What do I do with this? try and bury it? its erect and would pop back out I believe. Cut it off? leave it alone? Is this common? thank you.....
