Bamboo in narrow and deep containers

I am designing a deck around a pool, which will include a narrow (6 inches) planter box. The box can be as deep as 5 feet. I would like to plant a nice thin type veriety of bamboo that would grow upright but grow as high as 12 feet. Any suggestions for a veriety in central Texas? And how concerned should I be with them becomine root bound?

It will work being only six inches wide, but you will not get a thick visual barrier.

The depth is more than enough as bamboo doesn't need to grow deep.

P. aurea 'fishpole bamboo' which is very common in your area, should do fine. It is a running bamboo, and there are many other varieties that would do well also.
