I have two sprouts at this point...many days later. Still watching the other seeds though. One is one+1/2 inches tall, yellower and looks sickly, and the other is about one inch tall, slower growing, thicker, and darker green. It has 3 leaves already...Do they usually take this long to reach this height?

Where did you get your moso seeds? I'm interested in getting some started here too! I figure if I can get butia capitata seeds to sprout, there's little I can't get to sprout. :)

Found them on ebay. I bought ten seeds but I only spent about four bucks tops...ebay has moso, giant timber, nigra, but not many others as far a I could tell.

How do you guys start your seeds?

Plant them on or near the surface of sand/potting soil. Give them a good watering and keep them moist but not too wet, and keep them warm for the most part. You should see growth within a month, 2 months at max. I am a novice too, but that may help...Humididy helps too....Once the little sprouts grow, keep them out of the direct sun, otherwise the few leaves they have will begin to burn...You can start to grow bamboo whenever the seeds are made available to you, as they do not keep for very long, but make sure if you do plan to grow them, give them the necessary conditions they need to thrive.

I started mine in clean moist play sand.

They took about 28 days to germinate (show a shoot above ground). I'm hoping to try and grow them outside starting next spring.

For the winter, I water them almost daily. I haven't had a humidity problem yet.

I found banana tree after I started growing them, but thanks...I have one inside now in a pot. It is 3 to 4 inches tall.
