Transplanting from water to soil

I have had a big beautiful bamboo plant for nearly four years in a glass vase with stones and water. It has outgrown 2 earlier containers and has now outgrown its current one. Its stems are well over two feet and I am wondering if its time to pot it in soil. Would this be advisable, given that it has been in water for so long? I would be devastated if I lost it after all this time. Thanks for any advice.
