Bamboos Surviving ADVICE

Hello :

I am newbie on this forum both in the care of bamboo. I almost finish my home and I am trying to decorate it outside with 5 bamboos I got from a friend of mine. Problem here is the weather. It is extreme just like Phoenix AZ, probably sometimes hotter. I am located in Mexicali MÃ¯Â¿Â½xico by the way. We've reached 122 degrees in the summer and 32 in the winter. I really need some advise. When these bamboos were brought from the nursery and plantet last year about October, it was only used vegetal soil and thats all. No Fertilizer or any manure. Some stones were placed in the bed along with other plants as you can see in the picture. I havent install irrigation system yet but I will. I watering every day by night but apparentely theres a problem . Can someone tell me what I can do to recover them and make them healthy? Fertilizer? Mulch? Manure? More water? Now weather here is so hot.

Also, which irrigation system do you recommend ?

Did they recently start looking like this or did this happen over a period of weeks?

Also, the new culms/shoots and existing leaves look healthy, so there may not be a problem.

When I take divisions from my Bambusas, and after the new shoots begin to emerge, the older culms sometimes begin to die off like in your pictures.

If it happened over a long period of time, then it is probably not a problem, as long as the leaves and new culms remain healthy looking.

I'm new to this too. But I wonder how much sun these guys get. If they're getting baked in the sun then those rocks will probably retain and transfer a lot of heat. Just a thought.

I live in Florida so I have to deal with the heat as well. I would say that the mulch is the most important part. I found that straw or hay works really well. I will Lay down 2 inches of compost with some organic fert mixed in. Then a good 3 inches of straw on top of that. The bamboos roots will start to grown in the compost, and the straw will eventually turn into compost. You need to recompost and mulch twice a year.

Thank You all for your comments. All this happened over a period of weeks. My concern is the white color of the culm. They are discolored just in front; all rest of the culm is green. I thought problem could be sun exposure. Right now we are at 119 degrees.

I am planning to add 8 of these attached to a manifold

Thank You sambo725, I just wondering, so I just remove some amount of soil and replace it with the mulch mixed with some fertilizer right ? is it good to spray leaves and all bamboo sometimes?

I just keep adding it to the top of the soil. Make a mound, compost decomposes and goes away pretty fast. So the mound will settle out rather quickly. Just make sure you mulch good.
