| Hi,
Has anyone have experience growing the Chinese walking stick bamboo? I have two canes growing, there are a lot of leaves but the end of the leaves turn yellow. How do I help it? Thanks.

Some more information would be helpful: Is it in the ground or in a pot? Sun or shade? How much are you watering it? How long have you had it?

Thanks Kudzu9. I bought it this spring, it has two short canes with some leaves and they produced more leaves after a month or so in the gound. Then all in a sudden the end of leaves turn yellow. I thought it liked shade so I plant it under a big tree. It gets morning sun. I water it every couple of days. I recently put cow manure on top of the planting spot, it doesn't help. I know the ground wasn't the best but in the beginning it seemed to be ok. Any suggestions? oh...I have another bamboo (crooked stem) near by (on the opposite site-not directly underneath the tree) and it seems fine (no yellow leaves). So the ground shouldn't be the problem...but I guess I can't really say. Thanks for any advices.

Winsor- This species of bamboo does not like full sun, so partial shade is fine. I bought a large one of these a couple of years ago and had a somewhat similar problem when I first put it in the ground. I did lose a lot of leaves to yellowing, but I just kept watering it regularly and it became healthy. Take a look at the very ends of the branches and see if you have any new leaf "spikes" forming yet...which would be a good sign.

Hi Kudzu9, Thank you for the info. That's encouraging:-) Yes, there are a lot of new leaf spikes, even after I just planted but the thing is I think some of the new leaves are also turning yellow:-( But I will keep water it regularly and see what will happen. Thanks again.
