Tall, fast growing bamboo for privacy

I need privacy. My neighbour is about 10 feet away and has a 3 storey building. They can see into our house at eye level and also from their upper floor. Which means I need something that will block view from about 5 feet onwards up to a height of 25-30 feet.

Bamboo seemed a good answer to my problem, except I don't know where to begin!

I stay in Bangalore, India. Temperatures here are between 10 C / 50 F in winter and 35 C / 95 F in summer. The soil is very fertile red soil and we get plenty rain.

Space is a constraint. I have a bed that is about 1.5 feet wide and about 40 feet long into which I hope to plant bamboo. The rest of the area is concreted.

Part of the area gets sun all day, part gets sun for about 6 hours in a day.

A concrete wall (about 3 feet tall) separates our houses. I'd prefer a bamboo that will not develop roots strong enough to push the wall down.

I need something that will grow fast, real fast.

How close do I plant to ensure we do not look into the neighbours laundry line but at graceful bamboo?!

If it can filter out noise that is a bonus.

Can I prune upto a level of 4 feet from the ground so that it is just stalk and no leaves. I hope to grow some colourful flowers in the bed in contrast to the greens the bamboo will provide.

Lots of questions :(

Thanks,

Khuwair

If I entered all of the info correctly the species on this list should do well in your climate.

Bambookid-
The link doesn't work (it takes you to a large table of species). Besides...you're doing it the hard way. Go to the web page you want, highlight the address and copy it with a right-click, and paste it into the "Optional Link URL " box that is right below the message box here every time you post.

I would plant Bambusa oldhamii. A good sized plant should get over 20 feet tall in a single season. It grows erect to 50 feet maybe more in your climate. It may not like staying in a bed only 1.5 feet wide. Happy growing.
