does the stem look sickly? Either way, transplanting takes off a certian portion of the old root system or root hair at the very least. This will give the plant less water and minerals to support the leaves and stem tissue. Some of the leaves that die off do so so the plant will retain more water. I am not really sure what has happened to yours. the only bamboos I have had contact with are seedlings. One of which died of shock after transplant. It's roots may have rotted too....Good luck.

Please help to identify this bamboo. The turtle shell bamboo is not caused by stress. It is a genetic trait. The picture was taken in a Bamboo museum at Zhejiang Province, China.
