Fargesia Robusta (Green Screen) after three years

I thought I would share these photos for those that are interested in a screening bamboo to show what can be expected after three years with the Fargesia Robusta.

We live near Portland, Oregon and bought the Fargesia in the five gallon size but they were small. They were sold out the year before and very hard to find so we were on a waiting list and picked up the plants in early March. We had a cold Spring and the plants were just starting to send up shoots. We had record rainfall and the most snow in forty years but the Fargesia survived like a champ even though they were just planted and not established.

The planting beds are seven feet deep and I planted about eight feet apart. I irrigated and fertilized them regularly, just I did my lawn. I have only done very light side pruning so far but expect that I will be entering that phase more next year. The plants survived and put down roots the first year, grew to the top of the fence the second year and took off like crazy on this third year. After three years, it gave us the screening from the house behind and we are very pleased.
