Bamboo Nurseries

Kudzu9, any idea how I can find bamboo nurseries in Southern California?

It's so hard to actually find them listed somewhere. Searching different keywords it brings me up either "lucky bamboo" or fences and other bamboo items, but only a few bamboo nurseries and those are far from me (San Diego County for example). Can you please direct me to some place where I can find more nurseries listed?

Thanks a lot.

Mima

Just check the bambooweb forums. There should be some guys down there in california with tropicals, or someone who knows about it.

You might be able to drive right over to somebody's house to take some culm cuttings.

I just noticed your response, stevelau. I found a bamboo nursery but it's not close to me. Still doing research about this.

So you can propagate bamboo through cuttings too? Interesting. How would you root them?

For tropical clumping bamboos, yes, you can propagate them from cuttings pretty easily. They should be available if you look around, but you probably have some collectors in your area.

I'd start with this.

Here is a link that might be useful: Bamboo Species Source List

bboy-
I checked that out for the OP several days ago after we exchanged emails; unfortunately, none of them are closer than about 100 miles from where she lives. I suggested she register and post on Bambooweb.info and see if she got any leads that way.

Thank you. Indeed, not many nurseries/growers in Socal, at least in my area. I registered on the bambooweb forum and I like it there, so many threads to learn from, and photos.

If I don't find any closer to where I live, I will order online but from California nurseries. That way, poor plants will not arrive damaged or worse. For seeds, found a few US sellers on eBay but maybe I'll find more leads on bambooweb.
