We wait until spring, use cuttings that are 2 years old and use individual segmants per cuttings.
Per cutting we use 5 gal pots with all purpose mix, push the cutting so that the main stem is in the soil and the node, where the branches come out, are under the soil level. Cut the branches back to the first or second nodes or first leaf, whichever as long as there are a few leaves.
keep partially shaded until new culm starts to grow any where from a few months to a year, depending on your growing conditions.
We have used this on golden bamboo, green stripe bamboo, green timber bamboo and blue bamboo.

You have been able to produce culm cuttings from running bamboo and they grew? I thought that cuttings only worked with clumping bamboo?

Obviously you are referencing propagation of tropical bamboos and not runners. Single or double node segments work fine. Bury the cuttings up to the first node, removing a majority of the branching. Moisture is key, and like any other propagations the soil must be kept moist but not drenched, anx a daily misting of the leaves may help to. My next batch of props will be done under a mist system to see if this increases my success rates, much like it did for my roses.

That's what I figured, but I was looking at the "golden bamboo, green stripe bamboo, green timber bamboo and blue bamboo" and thinking "Phyllostachys Aurea, Phyllostachys Aureosulcata 'Spectabilis, Phyllostachys bambusoides and Himalayacalamus hookerianus (which is a clumper)"... I guess it all depends on where you live as to what you think when you see the generic names.
