Microclimates

So, you walk into a bamboo grove in the middle of the summer . . . first you notice the shade, and then you notice how nice and cool it is.

The coolness is caused partly by the shade. But it was also explained to me that the bamboo moves so much water through the culms that the air temp is actually cooled some. Feel a culm sometime and it's cool to the touch.

Now, does the same concept hold true in the winter? Does the movement of water through the culms warm the air a bit, thus providing a slightly warmer microclimate? I'm curious how many degrees I might gain in what I can underplant in some bamboo clumps and groves. Not into anything scientific yet, just some preliminary musings.

Thanks for any insights!

Dave
