Companion Plants for Mixed Bamboo Screen

I was wondering what people like to plant along with bamboo to make a privacy screen and add some interest to the bamboo.

I have planted Semiarundinaria fastuosa along the chain link fence between myself and my neighbor. I am not very patient letting it fill in so I have added some tall cannas and I was thinking of adding some oleanders but I wanted to get opinions on what would look best.

If you want some thing large consider Southern Magnolia. I was at a nursery last week and they had magnolias and bamboos together in a garden and it was very nice. The magnolias grow fast and dense for good privacy.

In zone 7 at least southern magnolia is extremely slow growing. I have seen 30 year magnolia trees that are about 15 feet tall.
