These look like a species of lady bug, which if I am correct will not hurt your bamboo. But the aphids they are hunting could be sucking the life out of your plant. Ladybugs are carnivorous as larvae and adults, but where they are there is usually aphids. It would seem bamboo would be a little tough for aphids to feed off of, but one species here in AL feeds off of Hackberry trees.

Ladybugs (and the twice-stabbed ladybug, in particular) are highly noted for their control of a wide variety of scale insects. We think dragonchild had better be looking for scale.

I have noticed the same thing. I am pretty sure I notice one of the ladybug larvae eating some of the scale. Pretty neat to see the whole thing unfold in front of me. First, I noticed discoloration. Then I noticed the scale. Then I noticed the ladybugs. I took some shots of it.
