in a half whiskey barrel in my backyard for privacy from neighbors view?

Can I palnt gold? Has anyone in zone 6 wintered Gold bamboo outisde in a half whiskey barrel?

It will receive sun all day long.

I have a small yard about 24 feet across and have 3 tiny emerald green evergreens planted next to chainlink fence but would love a fast growing screen because I will be in my 70's before these tiny little slow growing trees grow enough to screen anything.

I am claustrophobic and if I put up a regular fence I will feel boxed in. So I thought planting some nice green Boo at least across the back in front of the chainlink fence will be something nice to look at while I sit in my yard.
