Hi there,
I'd really like to plant one of the above clumping bamboo in a specific spot. I'd like a bamboo hedge-like border on my property line and in front i'm considering planting a smaller (maybe 8ft?) flowering cherry tree. I'm seeing photos of both of these bamboo with huge proportions! I had AK at a previous house that I planted and after 4 years it was still a really manageable size in approximately the same climate zone. It went from about 5ft when planted to 9ft shoots. I'm thinking 15-20ft is the max i'd like to see this bamboo with about a 3ft diameter at the bottom.
I'm good with some maintenance for trimming/thinning and if it takes 10 years to reach 20ft that might be OK, but I don't want to be naive. If this get's too big I'll need to remove it and start fresh, but I've never owned a bamboo long enough to know what that would be like. Is it really difficult to remove if it gets out of control?
Is there a more appropriate bamboo for this application?
Thanks all.
