I liked the reference to a "bamboo tree"...you don't want to confuse readers by using correct terminology. And it sounds like they weren't actually stealing the "tree" in the first place, but were cutting down a big culm to cart off, and leaving the plant in the ground. But they were idiots: I could have had that culm down and loaded in under 60 seconds, and it wouldn't have required any talking or assistance!

Apparently, they were going to make "crafts" out of the culm....

My dad's comment was that the culm would be green and that they'd be better off stealing dried material ;)

Stealing bamboo to do crafts? What were they going to make? A crack pipe? Meh, I've had squirrels do more damage. Still, total bummer; I'd be upset.

My biggest problem with this story is not the bamboo "tree" as silly as that is but that 911 got the cops to the neighborhood but the cell phone GPS didn't get them to the house. So either remember that the next time you call for help or be sure to be waving a tall bamboo tree so they can find you.

They were probably gonna make some Bongs out of the Bamboo.
