Golden Bamboo lays flat on ground

I have Golden Bamboo in my Mississippi yard. It only grows two feet tall. However, the leaves grow so lush and thick that the plants lay flat on the ground. Why? The soil is clay. (Did I just answer my own question?)

Golden bamboo does very well here in clay soil. It should get much larger. Maybe it is not well enough established yet, possibly from dry weather?

If it's growing that short on its own and the whole stand is that short it's not Phyllostachys aurea - unless the stand was cut to the ground recently. Maybe it's a Pleioblastus, with golden leaves. These have big leaves relative to the slender stems and may become temporarily flattened when dampened by watering or rainfall.

Thank you for the replies. Yes, it appears my bamboo is like Pleioblastus and not what I thought I bought.
