I'm in 4b and planted it this spring. It's not doing very well but probably too early to tell longterm. Foliage is burned already in shady, calm east side of house. Low this morning was -4F but I think the foliage burned at +4F. {{gwi:427348}}
I have some bamboo in the basement to keep me daydreaming about summer and all. bamboo outside in -10! I don't want any part of that. Good bye, have a nice day and freezing nights..................................................
OK Wisconsin Bamboo Society members, lets hear what your growing. So far I have the following under cultivation in Green Bay area:
Fargesia Murieliae (8 years) F. nitida (2 years) F. n. 'Great Wall' (1 yr.) F. n. 'McClure' (1 yr.) F. n. 'Nymphenburg' (1 yr.) F. rufa (1 yr.) Phyllostachys nuda (first year)
I have in the Madison area: P. bissetii, nuda, aureosulcata, Fargesia murieliae, F. nitida, and Arundinaria gigantea that made it thru at least 1 winter, and many others just planted this spring.
I will wait until spring after the floods in April.....with all the snow we have already it could be interesting....still have a lot of winter ahead of us......last year it did not flood, it was a great (but dry) summer, NO BUGS!
