Digging Musa basjoo

My 10-year-old musa mother plant has now become a banana grove. I would like to dig a few pups to give away, since they are encroaching on ginger lilies and clematis. I would like to dig them now, when the other plants are dormant, so I can see where to dig without disturbing the other plants. Does anyone have experience with digging a musa in winter? My Oregon garden is usually wet with no frost in winter. The trunks have died back, are cut down and mulched.
