New to bananas/ pot size and pups

Hi,

I've been browsing this forum and site quite a bit, and found it to be very helpfull.

I bought a banana plant a few weeks ago, have no idea what kind. But I assume its the same kind as the ones that grow wild all over the place here. Don't know what they are.

The plant I bought was about 6" tall when I first got it. I transplanted to a larger pot (about 18" across and 12" deep) put it on our rooftop and it seemed to grow overnight to about one foot or so. Now it's about a 18" tall and has 8 pups coming off. Mostly suckers and one sword.

So the question: is it bad for the mother plant if I remove all of the pups or should I remove one every few weeks?

I took one off today and re-potted it, just to see if it will take or not. I seemed to have gotten a decent size of the mother corm and some roots So it should take off. It would be nice to be able to get all of these pups into separate pots so I can have a nice little banana jungle growing on our rooftop.

Thanks in advance for any advice and help.

Justin
