Dwarf Cavendish root rot

Hi All,

I seem to have accidentally over-watered my indoor potted dwarf cavendish this winter, and during a repotting today I discovered root rot. I searched around on the internet but haven't been able to find out anything on what to do about it---if I water less, will the root rot go away? Do I need to dig it up again and chop off the bad roots and repot in a better draining soil mix? The plant is still producing new leaves, but the rot has me worried. I have a musa basjoo in the same soil mix that is fine, no rot. Thanks for the help.
